Spectator Mode and Broadcaster Mode In FIFA 18

We talked about a spectator/broadcaster mode a lot this week. If EA wants to grow the game as an eSport and expand its audience, this is a must have feature set. Every single eSport game has had at least a decently functional suite of tools designed to enhance the viewing experience.

And as we all know, pro FIFA play can get pretty dry to watch. What do you guys think? Would you use a spectate or broadcast feature? Let us know on our Twitter, right here right now.

The State Of L2R2 Dribbling And Shielding in FIFA 17

Another massive topic that we cover this week is how absurd L2R2 dribbling and general shielding gets. As you’ll hear Valerio point out, there has never been a recorded instance of a player ice skating on the pitch in real life like a player in FIFA. Does L2R2 have a place in the game, or should it be banished to the fiery pits of hell?

Speaking of L2… that shielding though. As we come to a close on FIFA 17, it’s to reflect on how this button has transformed the flow of matches this year, for better and worse.

Pre Game Stats Screen

In PES, the game tells you what your opponent’s tendencies are as you get into a match with them. If they like to counter attack often or play possession, you’ll know. Kind of like a real scouting report.

However, this screen causes a huge divide on the podcast when it comes to FIFA. What do you think though, should players be served scouting reports on the opposition or should have to figure things out as you play?

Massive FIFA 18 Gameplay Reveal – FUT FM Episode 02

Massive FIFA 18 Gameplay Reveal - FUT FM Episode 02

This week we have a very special episode focused entirely on covering and debating the crazy new gameplay features that FIFA 18 is bringing to the table. From new tackling control debates to hive mind AI and next level Maradona banter, you’ll kick yourself if you miss this episode.

FIFA 18 FUT Icons

Will “Real Player Motion” Actually Change How We Play FIFA 18 Or Is It Just Marketing Hype?

FIFA 18 is set to feature a new animation engine, signature player animations, and most importantly, the size and skill of the player will affect how they actually move with their feet. If let’s say Smalling needs to cover 100 meters, he’ll end up taking more steps than Messi, but Messi will be able to take many smaller and better touches, giving him more control.

This could lead to quite a bit more realism in the game, or it could lead to an era of close control being dominant in the meta game. We’ll see how it pans out, but if they’re doing signature animations for key players, it could create a lot of issues for the less popular ones in Ultimate Team.

Will Ronaldo’s cards have “the best” and “most efficient” animations since he was mo capped for example? You’d like to think that won’t be the case and that the game will balance it out, but then again Ronaldo is “overpowered” in real life with the amount of goals he scores anyway. As you’ll hear in our FUT FM episode, all of this is very tricky!

How Will The New FIFA 18 Crossing Controls Affect Matches?

Crossing inputs have been changed to include the use of shoulder buttons as modifiers, and crossing physics have been altered as well.

While FIFA 17 made traditional crossing horribly inefficient (that driven cross cutback though!), you wouldn’t want it to be too easy in FIFA 18 of course.

And lord save us all if pure cross spam becomes a viable play style once more.

There’s A New Type Of Tackle In FIFA 18

FIFA 18 has a tackle that’s somewhere between a standing tackle and a sliding tackle, and it’s currently mapped to the triangle/Y button.

We discuss whether or not this could be the biggest change to the defensive side of the franchise since jockeying became so powerful. And is having more defensive options good or bad in terms of decision making on defense? There’s a fine balance to strike between manual defending and auto defending, especially in FIFA Ultimate Team.

FIFA 18 Is Set To Introduce A Hive Mind AI System

In recent interviews, the developers have confirmed that AI players in FIFA 18 will make decisions based on what the rest of the team is doing.

In theory, this could completely change how we attack and defend in the game, and sneakily suggests that the AI in previous games was to blame for a lot of issues popping up randomly. Perhaps this will result in a more realistic matches of football, but of course, Ultimate Team has never been about realism, so we’ll see.

And of course, there’s so much more to cover, from new player archetypes to new Ultimate Team Icons like Diego Maradona and Lev Yashin. If you’re not subscribed already, be sure to hit the links to the right (or at the bottom if you’re on your phone).

Episode 01 – The Best Player Attributes You Need To Focus On

FUT FM Episode 01

Welcome to the first episode of FUT FM, your top audio source for all things FIFA! We’re kicking things off with a bang by analyzing the most important and best FIFA 17 attributes for each position. That’s right, we start with goalkeepers and work our way up to strikers. There’s always more to every player than meets the eye… and what does the composure attribute even mean? Knowing your players inside and out is crucial to building a great squad.

We also discuss the state of goalkeepers, the death of the traditional cross in FIFA 17, how formations stack up against each other, the actual importance of the weak foot and 4 star skills (such as scoop turn and Berba spin), using Lacazette in an SBC due to rage, whether or not chemistry styles matter, and so much more.

Also in this episode, we kick off the Beef of the Week segment, and boy oh boy, do we have some beef.

For example, how about that time Boateng got fouled so hard, that he did a 360 no scope spin with his leg and and scored an own goal with a powerful driven shot that Ronaldo would be proud of?

Yeeeeeeeeeeah….

Or how about when your player shins it at your keeper who stays rooted to the spot and you end up with a sweet own goal?

Or how about when you try to make a short pass and the ball flies somewhere random? OR HOW ABOUT WEEKEND LEAGUE SERVERS BEHAVING POORLY? BEEF BEEF BEEF!

You know what? There’s just too much rage happening right now. Let’s dial it back. Not many people know this, but every time you rage at a FIFA game, a puppy goes blind. Think about that the next time you play. Do you want to be a criminal or a pro FIFA player?

We’ll let you decide.

This episode features drpoplove (Goran), Italian Stallion (Valerio), Nellygotbored (Nenad), and Chappers (Elis). Thanks for listening and we’ll catch you next week!
